Ten Reasons to Invest in Turkey

from bbj.hu

Rhiannon Williamson, from offshore investment firm Shelter Offshore, offers 10 top reasons, why canny property investors are looking at Turkey.

Anyone who has visited the stunning Turkish Riviera will have no need of the information in this article - because Turkey is a destination that sells itself upon arrival. From the first “hello”, or rather “merhaba”, the majority of visitors to resorts such as Dalaman, Bodrum, Izmir, Side or Antalya are transfixed by the unique combination of incredible landscapes, fabulous climate, fascinating history and welcoming people. This is probably why, according to The Observer newspaper, some 17,000 Brits have already chosen Turkey as their overseas nation of choice, when it comes to buying a property abroad. These 17,000 have focused on the Southern Turkish coastline which hugs the Mediterranean and the Aegean Seas, because they know they can enjoy long sunny days from April to November, and also enjoy a nation that is rapidly advancing in terms of its appeal. To service these homebuyers and the increasing numbers of tourism arrivals, new flight operators are joining the ranks and there has been a sharp increase in both the frequency and number of flights to Turkey’s Riviera from Europe and the UK since 2006.

New property developments in Turkey are also stepping up to offer the canny consumer something better in the way of both choice and quality, and so if you’re considering buying a second, retirement or permanent home abroad, here are the top 10 reasons why you should be considering Turkey in 2008.

Year-Round Tourism Through Golf

BODRUM - Turkish Daily News
The “Tourism Living Quarter” project, Turkey’s biggest tourism investment to be established on the Bodrum-Milas road on a plot spanning 9,150 acres, will be undertaken with the initiative of the A?ao?lu Group and Net Holding.

As part of this project a golf course, hotel, apartment hotels and training centers will be constructed. The first part, expected to be complete within two years, will include the golf course, golf hotel, club building, villas and apartment hotels. The international standards golf course will be established on 670 acres of land.

A golf player spends around 150 euros per day if taking into account the balls, course charges, meals and beverages,? said Can Pulak, Net Holding Administrative Board member, commenting on the economic aspects of the project. ?In addition, they pay around 200 euros per day for the hotel. That is to say in a complex facility a golf player will spend around 350 euros per day. There are hotels in Bodrum for 15-20 euros per day. Considering this, we think it will contribute a lot to tourism in the region as tourists will not only stay in the hotel but also go out for shopping and entertainment. Its contribution will exceed expectations.?

Commenting on the large number of hotels closing during the winter season, Pulak said this project will help to prevent this by attracting tourists all year round. Stating that instead of cutting they will plant trees on their lot, Pulak said they spent $10 million for developing the greenery.

Relocating to Bodrum

The lure of Turkish destinations such as Bodrum, Dalaman and Antalya is so strong that it could encourage some foreign visitors to relocate to the country permanently, a market expert has suggested.

According to the Association of British Travel Agents, Turkey will be the fourth most popular package holiday destination in 2008, behind Spain, France and Greece.

Rhiannon Williamson, director of international lifestyle magazine ShelterOffshore.com, said that there is a correlation between tourism and property investment that suggests that a rising number of people will be relocating in Turkey in the coming years.

“Some people say that this year’s holidaymaker is next year’s holiday home buyer, because many tourists who visit a new destination and really fall in love with it also have a strong desire to spend more time there,” she said.

“This means that those who visit Turkey this year may well return to look at property for sale. With current estimates that 25 million visitors will arrive in Turkey in 2008, this does indeed bode exceptionally well for the property market in 2008-09.”
